Two wind turbine blades thrown in Kristiinankaupunki, Finland, in three weeks

Kristiinankaupunki, Finland. A wind turbine blade has been thrown in the wind park Metsälä (Swed. Ömossa) in Finland in the beginning of September, 2020. According to a local newspaper, the accident happened at night between Saturday and Sunday, September 5-6. The reason of the accident is not yet known.

The broken wind turbine, C4, is located in the northern part of the area. The Finnish MSM and the company in question have reported that the damaged "wind turbine blade has fallen down to the base of the wind turbine".

However, two videos of the damaged wind turbine and its blade show clearly that the broken part of the blade was not fallen down, but rather thrown to the surroundings. The videos can be found below and in two previous posts with further information here and here.

In less than three weeks, another wind turbine blade was thrown in the same wind park Metsälä, on September, 24, 2020. The broken wind turbine, C21, is also located in the same northern part of the area, as shown on the video below.

The broken wind turbine blade lies quite far from the tower in the field and in the woods. Smaller parts of the broken blade have spread north of it to a wide area.

The wind park was built in 2016 by a Finnish company EPV Tuulivoima. It was introduced in early 2018, but there have been problems with wind turbine blades already earlier.

The wind turbines installed are Vestas V136, nominal power 3.45 MW, rotor diameter 136 m, hub height 142 m and blade length 66.7 m. The blades of all 34 wind turbines in the area will be inspected.
